Tea towel made from Federation banner, 1901
This is a red, white and blue cloth tea towel made from a banner commemorating Australian Federation in 1901. A blue cross bearing five stars (one where the arms intersect and one midway along each arm) divides the banner into four sections. The Union Jack flag appears in the top-left section, a cameo showing Queen Victoria is in the top right, cameos of the Duke and Duchess of York are in the bottom-right section and in the bottom left there is a cameo of Lord Hopetoun, first governor-general of Australia. The tea towel measures 72.5 cm x 48.5 cm.
