Developed in partnership between AERO and Ochre Education, these lesson resources support the use of effective, evidence-based practices and address the learning expected in the Australian Curriculum. An exemplar unit plan provides guidance on the structure, sequence and decision-making made during the planning process.

This sequence of five lessons focuses on teaching students to find the missing angles and lengths of various different shapes.

Lesson 1 Find the value of missing angles

Students will be studying angles. They will use algebra and bar models to represent problems and calculate missing angles.

Lesson 2 Compare and classify triangles

www.edresearch.edu.au/guides-resources/ochre-resources/year-6-maths-unit-3-lesson-2

Students will compare and classify triangles, looking at how to recognise the different types of triangles and the sum of the angles in a triangle.

Lesson 3 Compare and classify quadrilaterals

Students will classify different types of quadrilaterals and learn about the sum of their internal angles.

Lesson 4 Find unknown angles in triangles

www.edresearch.edu.au/guides-resources/ochre-resources/year-6-maths-unit-3-lesson-4

Students will represent the angles in a triangle pictorially and algebraically before learning how to calculate missing angles.

Lesson 5 Find the value of missing angles in quadrilaterals

Students will represent the angles in a quadrilateral pictorially and algebraically before learning how to calculate missing angles.
