Developed in partnership between AERO and Ochre Education, these lesson resources support the use of effective, evidence-based practices and address the learning expected in the Australian Curriculum. An exemplar unit plan provides guidance on the structure, sequence and decision-making made during the planning process.

This sequence of five lessons has students learn about food webs and how the changing environment can effect them.

Lesson 1 Interpret food webs

Students will learn to interpret food webs, and describe ways in which animals and plants are interdependent.

Lesson 2 Represent food chains

Students will learn to draw and interpret pyramids of number.

Lesson 3 Describe impacts of environment on food webs

Students will learn to describe how changes in the environment can affect different organisms within a food web and explain the process of bioaccumulation.

Lesson 4 Describe organism decay

Students will learn to state the best conditions for decay, explain the causes and importance of decay and explain the design features of a compost bin.

Lesson 5 Describe the effects of changing numbers of organisms on a food web

Students will learn to determine the effects of increasing or decreasing numbers of organisms in a food web.
