Kim Burton
Hi! Welcome to my film school.
You're going to learn about how the camera is used in films to create a story.
Then you're going to make your own film!
Filmmakers choose camera shots to hide or reveal things to the audience.
My course will show you how the camera can be used to create feelings – to scare or excite us, to make us laugh or cry, to like certain characters, and dislike others.
Try to remember this information. It will be important when you're working on your own film.
You can go back to Unit 1: Basic film terms any time you need a reminder.
Now it's time to try it out yourself!
Unit 2: Training
This is our film set.
Let's look at an example of how to shoot a film scene. This is for a romance: a story about people falling in love.
Unit 2: Training
I will show you how to use camera shots, angles and movements to make this scene very romantic.
First, select Script to read about the scene.

Ah, yes. Barry and Sally finally touch hands in this shot. This is very important to the story.
This close-up just shows us Barry's feelings. It does not show Sally or the setting. The long shot is the best choice to show both the characters in a romantic setting.
