'Incy Wincy Spider' sung by Teddy Rock

SUBJECTS:  English

YEARS:  F–2

Watch and listen to Buzz, Belle and Bop perform the traditional nursery rhyme 'Incy Wincy Spider' in this animated music video.

Use the rhyme, sung with a rock beat by Teddy Rock, to discuss, order and retell events.

Things to think about

  1. 1.Are you afraid of spiders? Think of the scariest spider that you have ever seen. Where did you see it? What did it look like? Draw a picture of the spider you saw. In the nursery rhyme 'Incy Wincy Spider', what happens to the spider?
  2. 2.If you know the words or actions to 'Incy Wincy Spider', sing along with Teddy Rock. As you sing and watch the clip, notice the main events (things) that happen in the song. An event is like a part. How many main parts can you break the nursery rhyme into?
  3. 3.What is Incy Wincy Spider doing at the start of the song? What happens next to Incy Wincy Spider? What happens when the sun comes out? What does the spider do after that? Draw four pictures that show what happens to Incy Wincy Spider. Write on each drawing what is happening. Get help if you need it.
  4. 4.Make up your own nursery rhyme about a made-up creature. Clap out the name In-cy Win-cy Spi-der to its syllables. Try making your creature's name using the same number of syllables or beats. How will your nursery rhyme start? What will happen to your creature? How will your rhyme end?
