'It's raining, it's pouring' sung by Teddy Rock

SUBJECTS:  English

YEARS:  F–2

Watch and listen as Buzz, Belle and Bop sing the nursery rhyme 'It's raining, it's pouring' in this animated music video.

Next, see if you can think of some other things that might happen to the old man.

Things to think about

  1. 1.The title of the song describes how it's raining. Do you think that it is raining a little or a lot in the song? What do you do when you can't go out to play when it is raining? What do you think will happen because of the rain in this song?
  2. 2.If you know the song 'It's raining, it's pouring', sing along with Teddy Rock. As you sing and watch the clip, notice what happens to the old man. Listen for any pairs of words in the song that have the same sound at the end. 'Pouring' and 'snoring' are words like this. They rhyme.
  3. 3.The old man could not get up in the morning because he did something. What was it? What other things could the old man have done that would mean he could not do something? For example he might 'hurt his foot' and then 'couldn't climb up the staircase'. Make a list of things like this. Then use the same tune to make up a new verse for the song.
  4. 4.Get someone to help you write out the words of the nursery rhyme. Now imagine that the weather was hot, not cold and wet. Which words would have to change? For example, what word would you use instead of 'raining'? Maybe use the word 'boiling' instead of 'pouring'. You could use the words 'heat' and 'sleep' or 'hot' and 'stop'.
