Something mysterious has been scaring the camp.

Two special brothers set off to find out what it is. This story comes from Dalabon country.


Things to think about

  1. 1.Connections to place and to family are very important to many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. What connections are important to you?
  2. 2.Why is the mysterious stranger initially reluctant to come out and meet the brothers? What is suggested by his body language? Describe how the two brothers react to the man's song. What is the song about? What happens at the end of this story?
  3. 3.

    The idea of kinship, or connection to people and place, is an important aspect of Aboriginal cultures. What words and images are used to celebrate this idea in the animation? The story uses a number of symbols. What do the white cockatoo and the wallaby represent? What is suggested by their friendship with the Be man?

  4. 4.Using the symbol of a sunrise to represent a new beginning is common to many stories across cultures. Can you think of other examples of stories or films where this symbol has been used? Create a storyboard for your own visual story that includes an important symbolic role for the sunrise.
