For the Juniors: Wet weather in cold and warm climates

SUBJECTS:  Science

YEARS:  F–2

Have you ever thought about how rainy weather feels in different places?

This short clip talks about wet weather in a cold place and in a warm place.

You will hear some children talking about how they feel when it's raining where they live.

Things to think about

  1. 1.What words would you use to describe (tell about) the weather where you live? How do you feel when it rains? What clothing do you wear outside when it's raining? What sorts of things do you like to do when it rains?
  2. 2.Notice how different the weather is in the two places shown in the clip. What differences do you see? What sounds are different? What different words do the two boys use when they talk about the weather?
  3. 3.Why were the boys wearing different clothes? What if it was raining in both places? Would the weather still feel different in each place? Why do you think this? Do you have hot weather and cold weather where you live? How does the weather affect what you do?
  4. 4.Find pictures of rainy weather in storybooks and other places. What do you notice? What are people wearing? What are they doing? Can you tell if it's warm or cold in each picture? Draw a picture of a rainy day where you live. Put clues in your picture to show what the weather feels like.
