The Complete Stories is a collection of thirty-one short stories published since 1982. The compilation allows you to trace the author's development of style across his career and identify themes that he consistently returns to.

Consider the short story form. Short stories are made up of a number of elements: character, events, ideas and setting. These elements interact with language to convey what is often a single idea or meditation on humanity.

Setting and place plays an important role in these stories. Malouf uses a wide range of settings, including urban, rural, natural, marine, foreign, domestic and interior, in order to convey different ideas.
