To get to really know people, it's important to learn about their lives and the impact they've made on the world.

To get to really know people, it's important to learn about their lives and the impact they've made on the world. As you watch this clip, you'll learn all about Adam Goodes and who he is. You'll gain a deeper understanding of Adam’s path to becoming an advocate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and why standing up to racism is important to him.

We recommend you watch this clip before viewing other clips in the series, as it supports the story in each of the themes.

Things to think about

  1. 1.Who is Adam Goodes? What do you know about him?
  2. 2.Why does Adam Goodes feel a sense of belonging to the Sydney Swans Football Club? What emotions do you feel when Adam's mum shares her story about being a part of the Stolen Generations? How do you think her story would have affected Adam as an Aboriginal person?
  3. 3.What did you learn about Adam Goodes? Since doing his diploma on Indigenous studies and going on his personal journey about who he is as an Indigenous person, Adam says he has decided to call out anything derogatory or racist that's said about him and his Aboriginality. Discuss why you think Adam's studies changed him as a person and his stand on calling out racism. What do you think influenced Adam's decision to end his career when he did? What do you think are Adam Goodes's strengths and personality traits?
  4. 4.Teachers: There are four more clips for The Australian Dream. You can watch all the clips as a unit of work or you can view them separately to support other units of work. We recommend viewing the clips in the following order: Cultural identity, History and truths, Racism, and Resilience and reconciliation.
