Focused Improvement in Early Literacy Development (FIELD)

Abstract

FIELD is a partnership between the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR), the Association of Independent Schools of WA (AISWA) and the Fogarty Learning Centre at Edith Cowan University (ECU).

A cluster of independent schools in WA – with large numbers of students from Aboriginal, low socioeconomic and culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds – aimed to assess the oral language and emergent literacy development of their pre-primary students, and to use that data to inform explicit teaching of English language and literacy skills.
