QuickSmart is a literacy and numeracy strategy for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and other students at or below the National Minimum Standard in literacy and numeracy in years 4–8. The strategy was developed to help these students 'close the gap' in their learning. It focuses on developing fast and accurate basic academic skills through 30-minute lessons, three times a week, for 30 weeks.
The program operates with clusters of schools in metropolitan, regional, rural, remote and very remote locations. Since 2001, it has demonstrated that it effectively closes the gap between low- and average-achieving students in literacy and numeracy.
