Pacific Islander labourers cutting sugar cane in Queensland, c1895

This is a silver gelatin full plate glass negative entitled 'Sugarcane' taken by Henry King some time between 1880 and 1900. It shows Pacific Islander labourers cutting sugar cane and putting it into bags. The caption, studio number and studio mark are inscribed on the back of the negative, which is 21.5 cm wide x 20.3 cm high.

Joiners making doors and window frames, 1926

This is a black-and-white photograph of the interior of the joiners' workshop at Kingston, in Canberra. The joiners are standing behind work benches that hold lengths of timber, hand tools and pots of glue. The workshop uses natural light and has no electric lighting. The original glass plate negative is cracked.

Bullock team and horses at Cobargo, c1900-10

This is a black-and-white photograph of a bullock team yoked to a dray carrying wood, with the driver standing alongside. Taken outside the two-storey Cobargo Hotel in New South Wales, a man on horseback and a horse-drawn vehicle are also present, and men and women are standing on both levels of the hotel's veranda.
