Lungfish in a diorama, 1948

This is black-and-white photograph taken in 1948 showing three specimens of juvenile lungfish arranged in a display box with a small log and bunches of reeds.


'Fish caught at Port Arthur', 1835

This is an 8 cm x 12 cm black-and-white print of a red handfish ('Brachionichthys politus') from a copper engraving by Thomas Bock. The print was produced in 1835.


Fish fossil

This is a colour photograph of an ancient fish ('Wadeichthys oxyops') fossilised in mudstone. This specimen is from the Koonwarra fossil bed in South Gippsland, Victoria. The fins, tail and body scales of the fish are clearly visible. Museum cataloguing numbers are written on the rock.
