Work sample Year 1 Mathematics: Donuts

This work sample demonstrates evidence of student learning in relation to aspects of the achievement standards for Year 1 Mathematics. The primary purpose for the work sample is to demonstrate the standard, so the focus is on what is evident in the sample not how it was created. The sample is an authentic representation of student work and may contain errors such as spelling mistakes and other inaccuracies. In this work sample students: • connect number names, numerals and quantities • demonstrate how one- and two-digit numbers can be partitioned in different ways and that two-digit numbers can be partitioned into tens and ones • partition collections into equal groups and skip count in fives • solve problems involving addition and subtraction of numbers to 20 and use mathematical modelling to solve practical problems involving addition, subtraction, equal sharing and grouping, using calculation strategies
