This seven lesson unit of work focuses on data analysis. Students distinguish between populations and samples, and census and sampling; use and explain the practicalities and implications of different data collection methods including census, random and non-random sampling, experimenting, and observations including finding summary statistics for samples; compare distributions of samples taken from the same population with the same and increasing sample sizes; and undertake a statistical investigation. The unit includes a slide show for structuring presentation of the unit, student tasks including supplementary material and printable student booklets.
