Learning objects Shape sorter: modify tool

TLF ID L10737

Examine examples of pairs of shapes. Use the Modify tool to rotate, enlarge, reduce and flip each shape in a pair, to work out its features. This learning object is one in a series of nine objects.

Educational details

Key learning objectives
  • Students apply inductive reasoning to identify rotational symmetry or similarity of 2D shapes.
  • Students compare shape features in order to identify the geometric properties that define a set of shapes.
Educational value
  • Provides an interactive tool for exploring properties of shapes.
  • Enables identification of features such as similarity, congruence and rotational symmetry.
  • Offers optional challenge tasks to prompt comparison of the individual shapes and grouping of the shape pairs in a variety of ways.
