# The vile vendor: questions

TLF ID L118

Use a vending machine to get a vile-flavoured drink such as cabbage, smelly sock or rusty nail. The machine serves a can of drink randomly from four slots. Work out the likelihood of getting each flavour. Then choose a matching probability word: impossible, unlikely, equal, likely or certain. Move on to filling the slots with drink flavours to match the given likelihood statements.

#### Educational details

Key learning objectives
• Students match probability situations with everyday chance words.
• Students explore the tension between theoretical probability and randomness.
• Students construct situations to match probability scenarios.
Educational value
• Explores the language of probability by encouraging students to answer a series of questions about the likelihood of a particular event.
• Provides a printable activity that relates the language of chance to introductory concepts of probability.
