Learning objects Light and reflection: light rays: seeing through walls

TLF ID L4604

Investigate whether light rays can travel around corners. Rotate circular walls, each of which has a single opening. Position the walls so that light from a central bulb can be seen by a person outside the walls. Notice whether light always travels in a straight line. This learning object is one in a series of two objects. The series is also packaged as two combined learning objects.

Educational details

Key learning objectives

  • Students observe that light travels in straight lines.
  • Students observe that light is blocked by solid objects such as an opaque wall.
Educational value
  • Illustrates that light always travels in a straight line.
  • Simulates light being blocked by solid objects.
  • Provides a front-on view and top view of light experiments.
  • Includes a series of tasks that progressively increase in difficulty.
