# Finding symmetry: three lines: garden

TLF ID L7798

Explore a secret garden to find shapes with three or more lines of symmetry. Look for shapes that are hidden in objects, for example, a flower, tent and bird bath. Use the testing wand to fold the shapes into matching halves. Check your prediction. Find and test more hidden shapes. This learning object is one in a series of six objects.

#### Educational details

Key learning objectives
• Students distinguish between symmetrical and non-symmetrical 2D shapes.
• Students test a shape for reflectional symmetry by folding it into a matching half.
• Students analyse shapes with three or more axes of symmetry.
Educational value
• Demonstrates that a variety of 2D shapes have three lines or more of symmetry.
• Provides opportunities for students to test axes of symmetry using a shape-folding tool.
• Allows students to explore 2D shapes to develop an understanding of symmetry by folding them into matching halves in one or more different ways.
