Imitation activities were a favourite and popular activity for children everywhere. In one activity children would copy the actions of the kangaroo. This is a jumping relay race based on the actions of a kangaroo jumping. The Yulunga: Traditional Indigenous Games resource was developed to provide all Australians with a greater understanding and appreciation of Indigenous culture by celebrating the games that Indigenous Australians have been playing across the country for hundreds of years.

Educational value
  • This resource combines curriculum principles and cultural traditions in sport-related activities for people of all ages. While ensuring the integrity of the traditional games it provides opportunities for traditional Indigenous games to become part of the school curriculum by acknowledging and incorporating the practices of Indigenous people from different areas across the country.
  • The resource acknowledges and uses traditional language names throughout.
