This is an illustrated essay that describes and explains drawings and paintings made by survivors of the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. The essay has seven chapters: introduction; hellfire; water; ghosts; despair; hope; and sources.   • The drawings and paintings included in this essay are a pivotal collection of primary sources for any historical study that includes understanding the consequences of the atomic bombs for the people of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It is highly significant for years 11 and 12 Modern History and for year 10 History, especially for the World War II depth study that calls for an examination of significant events of the War, including the use of the atomic bomb.
