Educational value
  • Although intended for students in year 10, this unit would be useful for years 11 and 12 courses in modern history that deal with the rise of the Nazi Party, the election of Adolf Hitler as German Chancellor and the overthrow of the Weimar Republic.
  • It may also be of use in year 10 history as background to the World War II depth study, especially for the content description about an overview of the causes of the war.
  • The unit is valuable for considerations in civics and citizenship about what makes a democracy vulnerable. The case study of the rise of Nazism provides many opportunities for students to analyse the health of Australia's democracy.
