Educational value
  • This is a seminal resource for civics and citizenship. By the middle secondary years, students should understand the concepts of human rights, civil rights and political rights, and the responsibilities that accompany rights. This unit offers a comprehensive coverage of all these concepts in a way that is well suited to the intended student audience.
  • The sequences of learning and student activities that accompany the fourth focus question are very useful for the year 10 history depth study 'Rights and freedoms (1945-the present)'. They are particularly relevant to the content descriptions about the origins and significance of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the continuing nature of efforts to secure civil rights and freedoms in Australia and throughout the world.
