  • This resource is valuable for students who are learning or revising number patterns. The resource is specifically designed to aid students' understanding of number patterns.
  • It is also most useful in relation to the Australian Curriculum content description in year 5 mathematics that refers to describing, continuing and creating patterns with fractions, decimals and whole numbers resulting from addition and subtraction, and in relation to the year 6 content description that refers to continuing and creating sequences involving fractions, decimals and whole numbers.
  • The resource may be useful in helping students achieve that element of the year 5 achievement standard referring to students continuing patterns by adding and subtracting fractions and decimals and the year 6 achievement standard referring to describing rules used in sequences involving whole numbers, fractions and decimals. It may also be relevant in relation to the learning continuum of the numeracy general capability that includes choosing and using a range of strategies (including mental and written strategies and digital technologies) in calculations to solve complex problems in authentic situations.
