Each section provides important information, maps and images of floods in Australia. Links in the right-hand menu provide additional flood-related resources including data and applications, publications and websites.

Educational value
  • This is a very useful resource for the Water in the world unit of study in year 7 geography. It is relevant for the content description referring to hydrological hazards. The Flood basics section of the resource is particularly relevant here as it details the causes and impacts of floods. The National flood risk information project section of the resource is also useful here as it details the Australian Government's response to devastating floods across regions in Australia.
  • The resource may contribute to students attaining those elements of the year 7 geography achievement standard that refer to students identifying how the environment has changed due to environmental and human processes. The resource provides links to many reports on historical flood events. These reports provide information on how the environment has been affected by flooding. The Flood studies search section of the resource is also useful here as it enables student access to national flood information dating back to 1980 by using the Australian flood studies database search.
