Educational value
  • This is a valuable resource for the Landforms and landscapes unit of study in year 8 geography. It is relevant for three content descriptions including that referring to the different types of landscapes and landform features. All nine satellite images and corresponding informative text provide examples of the vast landforms and landscapes that exist across Australia. Landforms include lakes, rivers and tributaries, mountains, rainforests, coastlines, rich agricultural farmland and volcanic remnants.
  • This resource is also relevant for the content description referring to the geomorphic processes that create landforms. The image and information about the Snowy Mountains, NSW, is relevant here. The resource describes the formation of this landform occurring through erosion, glaciations, faulting and folding over millions of years.
  • This resource is also relevant for the content description referring to human causes of landscape degradation. The image and information about Hobart, Tasmania, is useful here. The urbanisation of the coastline is evident in the image and also described in the text.
  • The resource may contribute to students attaining those elements of the year 8 geography achievement standard that refer to students describing environmental and human processes that contribute to changes in the environment. The image and information about Liverpool Plains, NSW, is useful here as the image shows the agricultural activities that occur in this region. The text provides further information about the type of agriculture present in this landscape.
