This is a transcript of a series of three short digital stories produced by the Queensland Museum, entitled 'Wild backyards', in which experts explain how they attract wildlife to their backyards located in Brisbane, Roma and Innisfail. The transcript includes accompanying photographs taken from the digital stories and can be printed.

  • This may be a useful resource for the years 4 and 5 geography curriculum and the year 8 geography unit Landforms and landscapes. Within the transcript the experts discuss topics relevant to the content descriptions about the significance of vegetation to the environment, the importance of protecting the environment, the influence of people on the environmental characteristics of places, and the different types of landscapes.
  • This may be a useful resource for the years 4, 5 and 6 science curriculum. In the transcript the experts discuss topics relevant to the content descriptions about: how living things depend on each other and the environment to survive; how living things have structural features and adaptations that help them to adapt and survive; and how the growth and survival of living things are affected by the physical conditions of their environment.
  • This may be a relevant resource for the cross-curriculum priority of sustainability within the curriculum areas of geography and science. It may contribute to students developing an understanding that all life forms are connected through ecosystems on which they depend for their wellbeing and survival, that community action for sustainability is linked to world views and that future sustainable action requires us to explore and understand our environments.
  • This resource may contribute to students attaining the achievement standards in years 4 and 5 geography and years 4, 5 and 6 science. It may help students to describe environmental and human characteristics of places and the effects of interactions between people and environments. It may also help students to describe the relationships that assist the survival of living things, to anaylse how the form of living things affects their survival, and to predict the effect of environmental changes.
