Imagining ancient Rome

• This unit of work has multiple elaborations in sequences for year 7 content descriptions across the Language, Literature and Literacy strands and sub-strands of the Australian Curriculum: English, and for the Historical Knowledge and Understanding strand of the Australian Curriculum: History.
• The resource contains a range of activities and tasks, supported by worksheets across sequences, with a formative assessment task based on a reflective journal and a summative assessment task in developing a factual and a fictional text about ancient Rome. Links to relevant Curriculum content descriptions are provided for activities within sequences, summarised in a table format with links to elaborations in unit content, and are mapped on the website in overview tables for each unit, along with links to sequences for Cross-curriculum priorities and General capabilities.
• The resource will help students attain the achievement standard for the year 7 in which students understand how text structures can influence the complexity of a text and are dependent on audience, purpose and context.
• While the unit does not thematically link to a Cross-curriculum priority, there is a focus throughout on the general capabilities of Literacy, Critical and creative thinking and Personal and social capability. Some sequences provide the opportunity to explore Ethical behaviour, and in several sequences students use Information and Communication Technology (ICT) resources.
