This is a case study about an approach to the provision of a water supply and sanitation project that involves the local community of Bangalore in the project's design and implementation. It includes sections on Bangalore's expanding needs for water; consequences of a growing population and inadequate infrastructure; and limited access to safe water and adequate sanitation services for residents who are often unable to find affordable housing near places of work and consequently live in slums. The section on the project in the slum describes the environmental and social qualities of the place; the involvement of the community in project design and implementation; the strategies used in the project; and the environmental and social-change results achieved. The resource also includes links to information about India: its economy, geography and government; an image gallery; and a map.
