Dataset Gross domestic product per capita: breakdown into components

This is a web resource consisting of a database providing data for gross domestic product (GDP) per capita for 39 countries including Australia in 2011, and a breakdown into its components including GDP per hour worked and hours worked per head of population. A comparison with US data shows differences in labour utilisation, GDP per capita, GDP per hour worked and hours worked per capita. The data table can be customised with options to view by country or by a selection of nine variables, with data subsets able to be displayed as a bar chart, line graph or scatter plot. The resource is produced by the Organisation for Economic and Co-operative Development (OECD).

  • This is a useful resource that supports the mathematics curriculum for years 9 and 10, particularly the content descriptions about identifying everyday questions and issues involving at least one numerical and at least one categorical variable, and collecting data from secondary sources; and evaluating statistical reports in the media and other places by linking claims to displays, statistics and representative data.
  • This is a useful resource for Geographical Knowledge and Understanding particularly for the content descriptions in the year 10 Geographies of human wellbeing unit of study that refer to the different ways of measuring and mapping human wellbeing and development, and how these can be applied to measure differences between places; and the reasons for spatial variations between countries in selected indicators of human wellbeing. It would also be useful for the content description in year 10 Geographical Inquiry and Skills referring to evaluating multivariable data and other geographical information.
  • This resource supports the Asia and Australia's engagement with Asia cross-curriculum priority, with data on gross domestic product and a breakdown into its components provided for a number of countries in the Asia region.
