This is a student guide that contains information and hands-on inquiry activities for the Science Inquiry Skills strand of the Australian Curriculum: Science for years 7 to 10. It includes scaffolding in the form of worksheets to support the choice of investigation question and planning, conducting and evaluating a student open-ended science investigation. It is part of a comprehensive curriculum resource that consists of two parts; a student guide and a teacher guide that provides an overview of lessons covering the Science Inquiry Skills strand and includes worksheets and assessment suggestions.

  • This student guide is highly valuable for all of the content descriptions in the Science Inquiry Skills strands of the science curriculum for years 7 to 10. It contains a number of activities that support the development of an open-ended science investigation. It includes instructions and places for students to record their ideas all the way through the investigation process from initial ideas to sharing their results and conclusions.
  • The resource is of value as it includes an appendix to support students in developing skills in labelling scientific diagrams, devising results tables, constructing bar graphs and reporting their investigation findings. It also contains a glossary of key inquiry terms.
