This video shows practical examples of a kindergarten teacher using intentional teaching strategies to respond to children's ideas and interests. The teacher uses a real life investigation for children to develop and test hypotheses and explore solutions. The resource includes discussion questions for teachers and leaders. The video is 4 minutes and 39 seconds long and is part of a series of 4 short videos about intentional teaching developed by the Queensland Studies Authority.

Educational value
  • This video is of considerable value to teachers, early years educators and leaders. It provides intentional teaching strategies that allow them to take an active role in children's learning. Teachers extend children's ideas, challenge children's thinking and make links to children's interests in order to support them to discover new possibilities and develop and test hypotheses.
  • The resource is a valuable professional learning resource for teachers, service leaders and professional development facilitators to help plan, reflect and engage with the five learning and development areas in the Queensland kindergarten learning guideline (QKLG). This guideline has been developed for prior-to-school settings.
  • The examples in the video also align with the learning outcomes of the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF).
