Educational details

Educational value
  • This is an important resource for the design and technologies, science and geography curriculums in years 7 to 10 and the sustainability cross-curriculum priority in relation to them. It is highly relevant for the food and fibre context of the design and technologies curriculum, particularly for content descriptions that refer to analysing how food and fibre are produced when designing managed environments and how these can become more sustainable (years 7 and 8 band); and investigating and making judgements on the ethical and sustainable production of food and fibre (years 9 and 10 band).
  • The guides support content descriptions in all three science strands. The student activities are useful for Science Inquiry Skills, especially for content descriptions for years 7 to 10 that refer to questioning, conducting investigations, summarising data and drawing conclusions. The case studies support years 7 and 8 content descriptions about how science understanding influences the development of practices in areas of human activity such as agriculture, while the text and diagrams contribute to year 10 teaching and learning about global systems such as the carbon cycle.
  • The guides are of value for the geography curriculum in relation to numerous content descriptions in the units of study Water and the world (year 7), Biomes and food security (year 9) and Environmental change and management (year 10).
