  • This resource is very valuable as it contains eight articles that support year 9 geography students as they come to understand the threats and challenges to global food security. There are also three very valuable articles for year 9 geography students considering factors that limit crop yields. As a group the articles provide some historical context to the discussion of world food production and explore in some depth a range of issues impacting on crop yields and food security. The language is non-technical and accessible for this year level.
  • One article within this resource is valuable for years 7-8 design and technologies students examining organic farming systems as an example of managing a productive environment in a sustainable way. The article moves away from the health benefits of organic food and focuses on the extended benefits to soil and terrestrial ecosystems. It includes a number of performance figures that allow a comparison of organic farming to conventional farming. The language is non-technical and accessible for this year level.
