This is a resource about the scientific roles involved in the steps of the farm to plate process. It presents the current issues that Australia faces in food production and why science is important in every stage of the food production process. Educational value
  • This is a very useful resource for the year 7 Science curriculum. It relates to the content description that refers to how science understanding influences the development of practices industry, agriculture and marine and terrestrial resource management. Work task 1 of the resource is relevant here as it involves students in identifying the scientific roles involved in the different stages of the food production journey from farm to the supermarket.
  • The resource is also relevant for the content description that refers to students planning and conducting a range of investigation types, including experiments, ensuring safety and ethical guidelines are followed. Work task 2 of the resource involves students in testing the ph of different types of soil. The students use there rersults to determine the types of crops that could be grown in each different type of soil.
  • The resource may also be relevant for the year 7 and 8 Design and Technologies curriculum, in particular the content description that refers to analysing how food and fibre are produced and how these processes can become more sustainable. The resource provides information about how science has improved the management of the farm to supermarket food production process.
