This resource is a 32 page pdf integrated inquiry unit, for junior primary students, exploring how the distinctive qualities of a farm space influence farming practice. This unit uses the five stage inquiry model to sequence activities. Topics explored include: how do weather patterns and seasons affect farms?; Why are farms organised to meet different farming purposes? And what are the differences between natural, managed and constructed environmental features on a farm? This resource also includes teacher notes, some fact sheets on Australian agriculture, links to additional supporting information, and supporting visual material designed and labelled for young learners.

  • This is a useful resource for the Foundation to Year 2 Design and Technologies curriculum. The activity involving creating a labelled map of a farm may be useful to the knowledge and understanding content description referring to how plants and animals are grown for food, clothing and shelter and how food is selected and prepared for healthy eating.
  • This resource is also relevant to several content descriptions in the Geography curriculum.
