This is a website about the women’s suffrage movement in Victoria in the 19th and 20th century. The resource is presented in three sections: Introductory information; Story Objects; and Story Education Resources. There are 17 Story Objects that tell the stories of how Victorian women won the right to vote, key participants in the movement, the 1891 Monster Petition and commemorative activities marking the 2008 centenary of the right for Victorian non-indigenous women to vote. The Story Education Resource section links to worksheets, activities and resources. The resource includes images, videos, transcripts, photos and links to related information and resources.

Educational value
  • This is a highly useful resource for the year 6 History curriculum. It is particularly relevant for the content descriptions that refer to: Australian democracy and citizenship, including the status and rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and women; and the contribution of individuals and groups, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and migrants, to the development of Australian society. A number of the Story Objects provide relevant information including: Miles Franklin and Vida Goldstein, Great suffragette demonstration in London and Validating Women’s Work in a New Nation.
  • The resource is also very useful for the Australia and Asia depth study in the year 9 History curriculum. It is relevant for the content description that refers to the key events and ideas in the development of Australia, including women's voting rights. A number of Story Objects are of use including: The 1891 ‘Monster Petition’, Mother and daughter sign petition 1890 and Validating Women’s Work in a New Nation. The State Library of Victoria: The Suffragettes resource at the bottom of website is also useful for this content description.
