Learning objects Reactions and rates

TLF ID M019545

This is an interactive resource in which students explore what makes a reaction happen by colliding atoms and molecules. The can design experiments with different reactions, concentrations, and temperatures. Students can use the potential energy diagram to determine the activation energy for the forward and reverse reactions, the difference in energy between reactants and products, the relative potential energies of the molecules at different positions on a reaction coordinate. This interactive resource is supported by tips for teachers and ideas for using the resource that have been submitted by other educators.

Educational details

Educational value
  • This is a useful resource for the senior secondary chemistry curriculum. It is particularly relevant for the units referring to the activation energy for chemical reactions and how this effects reaction rates.
Year level

11; 12
