This is a short clip in which Gold Coast prawn farner, Nick Moore, describes the prawn farming industry, the business he manages, and the high standards of the Australian industry. Nick, explains why this business is more like agricultural farming than fishing and how his qualifications and experience more closely match farming. This Agrifoods clip includes images and descriptions of a prawn farm and the techniques and processes employed to produce the final prawn product.

  • This resource is of significant value for Economics and Business curriculum due to its relevance to content descriptions in years 6 and 8. In year 6 it is valuable for learning about a business in the aquaculture industry and how it is using farming principles to produce prawns. In year 8 it is valuable for investigating how the responsibilities of businesses in Australia to maintain high environmental standards.
  • This is a valuable resource for the Design and Technologies curriculum in years 5 and 6 due to its relevance to the content description about how and why food is produced. It has particular value for learning about what a 'managed' environment is in terms of food production and for exploring an aquatic 'paddock' in which an agricultural product is bred, grown, and harvested.
  • This resource is relevant for the content description in the year 10 Work Studies curriculum that looks at the need to be a lifelong learner in order to fulfil current and future work aspirations and opportunities.
