In this sequence of learning, students investigate the significant variation in sunlight hours that occur across Antarctica and in comparison to other locations on Earth. They interpret graphs of daylight hours and compare daylight and darkness received by places at different locations across Antarctica, Australia and the world in order to understand the relationship between a locality, the hours of daylight it receives and its temperature range. They investigate the reasons for variability of sea ice coverage around Antarctica and find out what causes the changes in seasons across Earth. Classroom Antarctica is a collection of teaching and learning activities for Years 3 to 8 that provides a range of short investigations on topics aligned to the Australian Curriculum. The activities are supported by resources sourced from the Australian Antarctic Divisions' scientific and environmental program.
