Teacher guide Female convicts in the First Fleet

TLF ID M021667

In this activity, students use diary entries made by Arthur Bowes Smyth (1750 - 1790), the surgeon aboard the first Fleet ship Lady Penrhyn. Arthur Bowes Smyth's journal contains the names of 109 female convicts listing their crimes and the length of their punishment. Students select one convict and formulate historical questions to research.
