TLF ID M025432

When engineer Matt Bowtell was retrenched from his job, he decided to invest in some 3D printers and started designing affordable prosthetics. His clever designs use no electronics and are made from very cheap materials. Matt has estimated that with 1,000 downloads of his open-source designs, those who use his prosthetics have saved a total of $6.5 million dollars. Watch as he designs a new hand for 6-year-old Lois. What makes these designs so successful?
