Learning objects Endeavour to persuade

This resource is designed to guide Year 3 to Year 6 students in the art of persuasive writing, based on responses to information texts and their own research on specific topics. The information texts used in this resource were written as part of the commemoration of the visit of HMB Endeavour to Kamay Botany Bay in 1770. The articles were first published in the four magazines published by The School Magazine in March 2020.

Educational value
  • This resource can be used by students independently or with guidance, depending on the ability of the students. The resource is based around articles first published by The School Magazine and comprises four sets of activities, organised as four tabs. The intention of each set of activities is to challenge students to inquire into a topic, form their own opinions, then express their opinions in clear and effective ways.
  • Each topic reflects an aspect of the Department of Education project, 'Endeavour - Eight Days in Kamay': -Why did HMB Endeavour sail into Kamay Botany Bay? -Tupaia, the Polynesian priest who sailed on the Endeavour -The first words of the first contact -Captain Cook's Secret Instructions - What if?
