Educational details

Educational value
  • This resource is useful in supporting the year 10 geography curriculum, particularly the unit Geographies of human wellbeing. The resource links key elements of the unit to relevant and aligned content in educational websites to build student knowledge of key concepts and terminology used in the comparative study of wellbeing.
  • The activities within the resource encourage research and critical analysis as students explore and better understand causes and consequences of differences in wellbeing. The resource usefully explores the ways wellbeing can be measured, and the link between different elements of wellbeing. Examination of wellbeing indicators and their association with actual wellbeing levels enables students to understand global patterns of, and effective countermeasures to address, disparate wellbeing.
  • The resource critically analyses wellbeing in developed nations and the paradox revealed by 'issues of affluence'. This additional element assists students to understand that wellbeing in both developed and developing nations is only built and maintained through ongoing focus and effort. This approach enables students to critically examine the relationship between development and wellbeing.
  • The resource also supports the Asia and Australia's engagement with Asia cross-curriculum priority by drawing upon website content and through case studies that compare Australia and Asian countries, with emphasis on India. The resource is useful in exposing students to practical geographical tasks and showing how they can apply geographical conceptual thinking to the use of digital resources.
