This teacher resource describes a strategy to improve the numeracy levels of low-achieving Aboriginal students in 12 remote Aboriginal Independent Community Schools (AICS) in Western Australia. The method section describes the development of an online portal; professional development for teachers, principals and Aboriginal Education Workers; and in-school and remote support. The strategy resulted in improved numeracy outcomes. The report discusses the lessons learned and the next steps planned. It also outlines the research base for the AICS Numeracy Strategy, and provides references and links to relevant readings and a map of WA showing the location of the 12 schools involved.
