This teacher resource describes a professional learning strategy established by the Catholic Education Office in Western Australia to bring about continual improvement in teaching and learning in its schools. Educational value
  • This is a useful resource for schools and school sectors seeking to improve primary students' learning achievements using a systemic evidence-based strategy for teacher professional learning and using a range of ongoing professional learning strategies at the school level. The resource points to the need for each school to identify a focus question; the value of collecting and analysing targeted data related to each school's focus; the appointment of a school coordinator of professional learning and key teachers in literacy and numeracy; and the contribution made by sector and cluster support.
  • The resource is of value in relation to the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers, particularly the professional engagement domain. It is relevant to all four focus areas of Standard 6. By planning and undertaking a program of the type described in the resource, teachers at all levels - graduate, proficient, highly accomplished and lead - can extend their own professional learning or that of others.
