segment: a story in a television current affairs
program. Most current affairs programs have four
or five segments, each on a different topic.
edit: to select part of a sound effect or piece of
film, cutting out what you don't want to use, or to
change in some way
cast doubt: suggest that something isn't true
witness: someone who sees or hears something
happen
settings: the place where action happens or
something is seen
audible: loud enough for you to hear and
understand it
sound effect: a natural or created sound used in
film, radio and television
storyline: the way we shape a story; the story we
tell
on the loose: free, roaming around instead of being
in a cage
rumour: gossip; a story people are spreading
without facts to support it
credible: something or someone you can believe; reliable
facts: things that are true; things that really happened
formally: officially; in a dignified, serious way
convince: make people believe
atmosphere: feeling or mood in a place; for example, a spooky atmosphere in a forest or a worm, friendly atmosphere in a room
close-up: a photo that shows something very near the camera, usually making it look larger than in real life
medium shot: a photo that shows something at a normal distance form the camera, including the thing being photographed in part of the setting
subject: the person, animal or object that is being photographed or filmed
visual: a photograph film or image
edit out: to remove or cut out something from an image when you are editing your segment
medium long shot: a short that shows several different things in a foreground and background
Sweeping statements: exaggeration, something said without talking all fact into account
opinion adjectives: an adjective that shows what someone things or feels about something; for example, a beautiful scene, a scary animal
factual: presenting facts rather than expressing an opinion
version: a copy or form of something
edited: changed in some way
objective: Not expressing and opinion or emotion
