Learning objective focus

Anticipated student responses

It is anticipated that students will eliminate 'fast pan', as no tension is generated. 'Slow pan' can earn credit if a good reason is given. The preferred answer is 'zoom-out (high angle)'.

Zoom-out (high angle): Focuses on the lone basket obviously dropped by Sally; makes us wonder what has happened to the characters; basket tipping over is symbolic of some tragedy that has befallen them.

Slow pan: Tension builds as the view moves from open door to falling basket; we wonder what has happened to Sally and Harry.

Follow-up activities

If students have had difficulty completing any part of the assessment object, or have not scored well overall, refer them to the Basic film terms button. (It returns them to the screens that teach about the various shots used in the resource.)
