Introduction

In this activity students learn about social indicators of wellbeing and write a report that demonstrates their understanding of how these apply to one country.

  1. Ask students to visit the BBC's Development and health website.
     From the home screen select the tab for 'Social indicators'.
  2. Students explore the sections that explain social indicators of wellbeing. They should work through each of indicators and complete the website exercises attached. This will assist students to develop a clear understanding of the nature and effect of each of the many listed social indicators.
  3. Referring to specific examples and to a nominated focus country, they should write a brief report responding to these questions.
     • How do the examples chosen reveal the evidence of a social situation that affects wellbeing?
     • In what way do these various examples of social indicators affect wellbeing?
